Data Product Factory
We co-create data products for tomorrow.
The DATA PRODUCT FACTORY is our sandbox for new data product ideas within diconium.
In this collaborative space, our team’s most creative minds are empowered to evolve their ideas with dedicated, custom-tailored guidance and support.
Why you wonder?
“What we observe is that the most promising ideas originate from actively engaging in real customer projects, not from secluded innovation spaces plastered with post-its.”
Swantje Kowarsch, Managing Director diconium data
“It is a fallacy to consider innovation as detached from the actual business, as this often simply leads to pursuing technology for technology’s sake. Companies risk falling into this pattern with AI by focusing on where they can apply the technology rather than honing in on the business problems it could potentially solve.”
David Blumenthal-Barby,
Senior Principal A.I.
Keep it simple – our 3 ingredients
Idea Owner
An idea must be pushed with dedication, especially in its nascent stages. We believe that this cannot simply be delegated as a to-do by management to the team. Hence, our proposals come from within the team itself. Idea owners are empowered to cultivate their ideas with creativity and passion, driving them forward with zeal.

Dedicated Support
We dread nothing more than pouring months of effort into developing something that ends up gathering dust. Hence, our idea owners receive early support from business and service designers, ensuring the idea is steered in the optimal direction from the outset. Plus, we can tap into our guild to selectively involve cloud architects, legal engineers, or other data experts in the design process.

Lean start-up meets data
Data products can sometimes be quite abstract. However, that does not give our developers carte blanche to hide away in their offices and code for months on end. To ensure we consider the business case and actual customer needs from the outset, we have established a clear process with set timeframes and deliverables: from low-fidelity prototyping to launch.

Ideate
In this first and wildest phase, idea owners get 3 months to expand their idea. From customer discovery interviews and crazy Eights to low-fidelity prototypes and competitor job-to-be-done assessments, we combine all input into a POC.

Validate
We then enter a more structured phase, actually building things, testing, and validating them in loops. We make use of our guild of experts and extensive client network to come up with an MVP that is both technically feasible and about to be sold like hot bread.
DPF
Execute
In the third phase, Execute, the focus is laser-sharp on finalizing and launching a full-fledged data product. Step by step, the idea moves out of the Factory and into diconium’s sales funnel. Ta-da!

The Backstory
The offices of diconium have long functioned a bit like a melting pot, where people with diverse backgrounds collaborate on customer projects. In this creative atmosphere, ideas for data products constantly emerge, some of which are developed directly as follow-up projects for customers. A year ago, one of these ideas caused quite a stir. It was still too vague to pursue with a specific partner but simply too exciting to leave at just a slide deck. We decided to continue developing it alongside our daily business, let’s call it bootstrapping. While working on its implementation, we experimented a lot, made a ton of mistakes, and tried to learn from them. Today, we are working on formalizing and stabilizing our approach—with the Data Product Factory.
